SIP panel and timber connection prepared for project-specific detailing.

For architects

Prepare a clear design handover.

A clear drawing handover connects your architectural design with the information needed to prepare a Ready-to-Assemble SIP Building Kit. Use this guide to organise geometry, details, revisions and approvals before Quacent develops the production information.

01 / Architect design handover

Start with geometry and interfaces.

Coordinate the panel layout with the building geometry, supports and envelope. Review openings, floor edges, roof edges and adjoining materials early. Identify fixed design decisions and the questions still open for review.

Treat the handover as a coordinated drawing issue rather than a collection of unrelated files. A plan should correspond with the same levels, roof shape and opening sizes shown in the sections and elevations. Label provisional information clearly so the technical review can distinguish a design choice from a dimension that is ready for production.

For an extension, identify the existing structure separately from the proposed kit. Show the connection zones and the measurements that your local team must verify. This gives the kit designer a defined starting point without assuming that an existing wall, floor or roof provides a confirmed support condition.

Architectural information

Plans, sections, elevations, openings, levels and the proposed wall and roof build-ups.

Structural information

Supports, spans, loads and the appointed local lead structural engineer.

Building-physics information

Project requirements, climate, exposure, junction details and proposed linings.

02 / Architect design handover

Prepare a coordinated set of details.

Review wall connections to foundations, floors and roofs together. Include window frames, penetrations and airtightness continuity. Kit production drawings form part of the coordinated information; the architectural, structural and building-services designs remain necessary.

A useful junction drawing shows how the work packages meet. At a window, for example, the structural opening, frame position, insulation, seals and external weather protection need to relate to one another. Mark which items are supplied with the kit and which are installed by the window supplier or another trade.

Keep the same detail references on the plans and sections. Where a junction is not yet resolved, include the question and the responsible designer in the handover. This makes the review actionable: the team can address a specific interface instead of interpreting a general request to check the drawings.

03 / Architect design handover

Record who reviews and approves.

Quacent coordinates panel layouts, connection information and agreed calculations for its supply. Appointed local advisers retain their contracted responsibilities. Name the people who review the whole building, foundations, approvals and interfaces.

Create a simple approval list covering architectural dimensions, structural supports, kit connections and the complete envelope. The person collecting comments is not necessarily the person authorised to approve a change. Identify both roles, together with the drawing revision to which their comments apply.

Before production release, close the outstanding questions in one coordinated issue. Retain the agreed responses so the contractor can understand why a detail was selected and which information supersedes an earlier version.

04 / Architect design handover

Prepare the drawing handover.

For an initial review, provide legible PDF plans, sections and elevations. Agree a transfer route for DWG and IFC files. Identify the revision and outstanding design questions. Production requires an agreed document set.

Include a short issue note with the file names, revision, date and purpose of the submission. Explain whether you are requesting an initial feasibility discussion, a quotation review or preparation for manufacture. Group superseded drawings separately so they cannot be mistaken for the current design.

For model exchange, agree file format, units and the purpose of the model with Quacent. Use dimensioned drawings to communicate decisions that must be checked; a model view alone does not identify every construction layer, connection or approval status.

05 / Architect design handover

Agree the working arrangement.

Agree the design-review scope, document exchange, decision makers and approval stages with Quacent. Record any commercial arrangement separately and review it against your professional obligations and client appointment.

Define how questions will be collected, who will return a coordinated response and how approved revisions reach the production team. Include the contractor early enough to discuss access, panel handling and the proposed assembly order. A clear working arrangement links design intent to practical delivery without changing the local professionals’ appointed responsibilities.
